The final post

I can't believe my time in creative arts and high school are just a week from being over... Creative arts is one of the greatest classes I ever took, it taught me so much. It helped me learn and grow from the shy little freshman I was in art effects that was a little scared to show her finished work because she thought people wouldn't like it to the big bad, well maybe not so big senior I am today who is working on portfolios to show the world and a book with some crazy little drawings in it that every one will see, and I'm not scared to show it off cause I like what I have created and it makes me happy. This whole process could have gone a lot differently though if I didn't have the same awesome teacher for the three years I had art. She helped me so much and alway introduced me and every other one of her students to some new and interesting stuff always with a bit of pep in her step. So I would just like to say thanks. As I said before the art at hths is almost over for me and I will miss it so much along with the friends made there and the memories. I feel I have grown so much from dinky little drawings into whole mixed media pieces and full tea clay tea sets and metal pieces. To anyone who never took and art class or blew art off as stupid you never know until you try and I'm sure you too would truly love it as I do and alway will. It's a short life and it goes by too fast, so make the most of every moment.
With love,
Tara

short story

in the jungles of africa far from and human life, where beautiful flowers grow wild and free lived a geraffe named pica. she was tall and knock-kneed and a little bit shy, but still a nice girl. Her best friend was a rhino named Huey he was big, tuff and had this booming voice that was hard to ignore. But she brought out his gentle side and he protected her from the dangers of the jungle.
One day pica and Huey were walking to their secret watering hole, and found something odd. The fruit trees had been picked and nearly wiped clean besides a few fallen to the ground. But they looked past it thinking it might have been the monkeys that showed up time to time.it didn't matter anyway they were already taking in the beautiful view if the watering hole. It was like a picture with its sparkling blue water with little Lilly's on it and the small waterfall at the back that flowed so peacefully into the glassy water below. Along with the canopy of the green leafs above letting just the right amount of light in.
The two drank and floated in the clear waters calming and relaxing them selfs when out of nowhere pica had a rope around her neck and snout and Huey had one around his horn and left leg. It was such a quiet attack the humans came out if no where. Pica was told the pale two legged creatures never can around this part of the jungle.
Next thing the two of them knew they where in a box together and pica had a little pink floral bow on he head. They had been captured and brought to a traveling circus! They where so scared that Huey let out a giant roar to try and get the people's attention. They were carted around from stage to stage being let out in front of this thing that looked like the watering hole, they just wanted to go back and they didn't know how.
One night they where back in Africa and they knew this from the wise old orangoutang that traveled with them so they planned there escape. As pica pranced around on the stage one last time Huey fought himself loose back stage and went charging, he ran as hard as he could breaking through the fake watering hole and past the cruel two leg animals picking up pica on his back and through the other side of the tent all in one burst. He let pica down and they ran for miles trying to get back to their family's. for days they wondered until, at last! They made it back to the cover of the beautiful flowers of the deep jungle. From that day on pica and Huey vowed never to go back to the secret watering hole no matter how pretty it was it was not worth loosing the jungle they loved as they had before.

Blind contour

We did blind contours this marking period, I have mixed feelings about them. I always feel the need to look at the paper in the middle and then I have to start all over... Also I don't think they are the most flattering type of portrait. But the decorating and painting overtop is more fun. And I
Love ink pens and how they bleed, it has such a great look! I'm not done yet but almost! Can't wait for you guys to see it once I'm back in school and not so sickly so I can get a picture of it

Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe was born on November 15, 1887. by the age of ten she had decided to become an artist so her and her sister took painting lessons from Sara Mann a local water colorist. Her art was first displayed in gallery 291 owned by Alfred Stieglitz. They started talking regularly and Georgia moved to New York to devote her life to her art and to Alfred. Georgia and Stieglitz got married in 1924. She started primarily working in oil color and doing close ups of natural life. After creating paintings of tropical flowers from Hawaii she was commissioned to do a painting for Dole fruit advertisements, this escalated her popularity and she was commission for many more projects. She suffered a mental breakdown mostly from over working her self. After this she still continued to paint and spent allot of time in New Mexico inspiring her animal skull paintings( one shown below). When she go old she went partially blind but still continued to paint and make pottery until she died on march 6, 1986 at the age of 98.

Light it up

We made lanterns! Mine is two deer or moose whatever you want to think with some crazy antlers. It took me a while to figure out what to do, but I like what I came up with. They took a while to cut out but once my animals where cut out and my hand cramp went away the final products are pretty awesome. You should see some of the amazing designs the other kids in my class came up with just look at the hths creative arts blog.
P.s. the back of my lantern is the back of the deer if you can't figure it out :)

Empty bowls

Our class room has been becoming the kitchen of a restaurant in the past few weeks because of all the bowls that have piled up. But the best part is what they are all being made for, the empty bowls dinner. I get some extra practice with clay and the money raised from my bowls and everyone else's goes to the food bank it's such a great idea!
This is just one of the bowls I made I will upload a finished picture when I find it in all the piles.

1st marking period finished?

Even with a few delays the first marking period has flown by so quick... It was a great start to my senior year i got to start papers for my book (picture above) i trying to stay a little more neutral then i usually do for my book but we will see if i can keep it up. And i just finished my project for Marist, I hope i get in! All the extra time in first period really helped me out. But i cant wait to start lanterns i think they are going to be pretty awesome when they are done and i cant wait to see what the rest of the year will bring!

Mixed Media!

We are starting Mixed media again! and even though some people hate it i love it, and i love how my collage turned out. we needed to pick a presidential candidate and an issue and i chose Obama and bringing the troops home. I chose them one because i wanted to use the picture from when i met Obama and two because i have quite a few cousins and close family friends in the army and i want to see them safe and home. But back to my collage i started with matt transfers for the base and then just layers of paint and peeling off of presidents faces to finish. i think the colors are great and i think i get my opinions across. take a look for your self.

Shoes and more shoes

So this year instead of apples we drew something that didn't rot oh so quickly. We drew shoes! I think they where a little harder then the apples, they had more detail I guess, and we had allot more space to cover on a full sheet of paper then the half sheet in last years books. but over all it was a fun time and i think mine turned out pretty well even though i had some issues with the shading because i didn't know how dark to make it all. what do you think...

Final Post

Its the end of creative arts for this year :( It has been such a fun year in that class though. I think I have improved in every form of art we did this year, from drawing and sketching to clay and metals. I would have never thought that I could draw a self portrait of my self. That was probably one of the most stressful things we did this year. It was so exact every little detail had to be in the right place or it threw the whole thing off. but I finished and it was such a great feeling! I had some issues with my metals to. My butterfly refused to stay on, we had to glue it but all the soldering turned it a cool color. Next was the clay. It took forever and my bow ribbons kept breaking but I figured it out, and my plate is awesome to it broke a little two including the bottom of my needle right as I finished glazing it. It was a little annoying it broke right then but it looks pretty good and I'm happy with my table setting. I never would have thought at the beginning of this year that would have accomplished everything that I have. the class the teacher and the atmosphere in the class is just fun and open and its just a place to be open and express yourself. I cant wait to take it again next year!!!

Friday, March 30, 2012

I am doing Betsey Johnson for my table setting. I picked her because she started my interest is design and fashion. The  first thing i made was my bowl it is almost like a little egg chair but it has buttons all over it and I'm going to glaze it in some crazy colors. It was a little annoying to attach all the buttons but I'm glad i did because it looks pretty cool, at least I think it does. Second i am making my cup that is supposed to look like a bow on its side (picture below) I have to figure out how to make sure the ends of the ribbon don't snap off when it dries. it has been fun so far and i cant wait to see my finished project!
Our metals unit is over :( I made a piece that looks like a butterfly on a leaf. the bottom is brass then the leaf is copper and the butterfly is silver. It was so hard to cut out the little rain drop cut outs in the brass and the cut outs in the leaf but i love how it turned out! The one major issue i had was putting on the butterfly, it wouldn't sotter on i tried so many times (we ended up just gluing it). All the heat did turn it a great color though. This unit was so much fun and I hope I can take it again next year!

Metals

The metals are going pretty well so far! I finished cutting my butterfly shape first (picture below). My design is inspired by a butterfly on a leaf with dew drops/ rain around it. All the pieces are in the picture below. The sawing is hard and a little annoying when the blade breaks but I bet the soldering will be fun. I think that the rest of the metals experience will be fun it will challenging but interesting so I'm excited for the rest!!

identity collage

my identity collage is one of my favorite things I have done so far, I love the colors I used and what the things Incorporated into it mean to me. The picture in the back of it makes me laugh every time I look at it. Not just because of the glasses my dad is wearing but because this was taken right after I had been on the beach all day and I got burned like a lobster... but the collage itself is fun and interesting at least I think it is all the fabrics, drawings, colors and techniques I used mean something to me and that's why I love this piece.

self portrait

I think my self portrait turned out pretty great it actually kinda looks like me!!! (my picture is posted below). It was so hard to get the drawing to look like me. People who draw portraits for a living have have some tallent. Making my own paint color and inking where a little more relaxing. It was great to see it all come together. when you finish something like my portrait that took you so long and that you worked so hard on it gives you a great feeling. I hope everyone else thinks it looks like me!!

Robert Rauschenberg image
i like this painting because of the colors and the use of the clocks how they look like they are almost slipping through time within the painting. i also see almost an evolution like it has a story running though it as you look at it.
